Koyasan spirit of children Taiko

The Koyasan Spirit of Children Taiko Group began in July 1993 as a Cultural extension program with the support of the northern California Koyasan Temple, Sacramento. The group was formed not only to teach children how to perform on the Taiko drums, but also introduce the legacy of Japanese culture to children of all ethnic groups.

Sacramento Taiko Dan

Our mission is to study, preserve and promote traditional and contemporary styles of taiko drumming. Taiko is a Japanese style of percussion, which combines music, movement and spirit. The spirit of the drummers produces the powerful sound of the drums, and creates a dynamic and visually exciting art form. We seek to provide the Sacramento metropolitan community with opportunities for greater cultural awareness and understanding of this traditional Japanese art form through performances and classes.

Second Wind

Second Wind is comprised of highly-talented musicians and vocalists from bands based in the Sacramento Valley/Bay Area during the '60's-'70's. These bands- East Wind Band, Sparrow, and Slippery When Wet- have performed in nearly every size venue imaginable from backyard barbeques to nightclubs to concerts at local auditoriums such as the Eastern Star Temple and UCDavis' Freeborn Hall with recording artists such as the Dramatics, Bloodstone, Redwing, the American Trucking Company, and many others. Some of our former members are currently performing with Kool & the Gang, the Steve Miller Band, and Diana Ross.
