The mission of the SBWA is to serve and support the Buddhist Church of Sacramento and to promote a better understanding  of the Jodo Shinshu teachings. The SBWA was founded in March 1901 and was known as the Sacramento Bukkyo Fujinkai.  It was formally inaugurated in 1903 by a group of pioneering issei. The leadership of the this organization was undertaken by the resident minister’s wife until 1960.

Today we have an elected governing board. The Board is composed of 30 members and meets the first Wednesday of the month.

This organization of adult women assists the church in many of the fundraising events and has social activities for its members. It is the largest organization of the church and is considered the backbone of the church.  SBWA sponsors weekly line dancing, ukulele, and bunka classes.
