The purpose of the Sacramento Betsuin Sports Program is to develop organized activities in which our Dharma school youth can develop friendships and positive social skills through activities and team sports.  Essential to this goal is to have fun and nurture an understanding of fair play and sportsmanship.  Our Sports Program currently includes Keiki Hula, family bowling and youth basketball in the Northern California Church League (NCCL).

Keiki Hula is hula class for young boys and girls.  Classes are Sunday afternoons and runs from October to June.

Family bowling is for kids and adults. Instruction is provided for those that want to develop the skills of the sport. The league is on Sunday afternoons and runs from September to November.

Youth basketball is for boys and girls, Kindergarten to 12th grade. Lil’ Hoopers is basic introduction for 4 and 5 year olds to the sport of basketball. Instructional League is for 1st and 2nd graders. The focus in I league is basic instruction and skill development in dribbling, passing, shooting and defense.

League play in the NCCL starts in the E Division. Each division is formed by school grade level.  E Division – 3rd & 4th grade. D Division – 5th & 6th grade. C Division – 7th thru 9th grade. B Division – 10th thru 12th grade. Youth basketball runs from fall through early spring. We conclude our basketball season in the month of March where we play in various  tournaments throughout Northern California and the Bay Area. Our Annual Betsuin Basketball tournament is held the first full weekend of March where we host over 100 teams annually to play in Sacramento.

Our Sports Program is fortunate to have a dedicated group of leaders and coaches made up of parents and young adults, many of whom have grown up through our program. Over the years, the Betsuin Sports Program has been a proud and meaningful tradition of our temple.
